1) Elk Creek, Grand Lake
Headed to Rocky Mountain National Park? This location puts you right outside the gates with gorgeous views of the park. Although you're close to Grand Lake for dining and shopping, the sites are very private with abundant trees and bushes to separate you from your neighbors. You'll enjoy tons of open green space, hiking trails, a fire pit, and a picnic table from which you can watch the moose, fox, and bugling elks meander by.
Elk Wood can handle even the biggest rigs, and every site is a back in, with:
- 16 sites with full hookup with water, electric, and sewer.
- 34 sites with water and electric.
- 20 sites with 50-amp electrical service.
- Honeywagon service is available for on-site dumping.
Guests love the clean and private showers, the TV/community room, great Wi-Fi, and handy laundry facilities. The owners have the reputation of being 'some of the nicest people we have met in our travels' who take tender loving care of their facility and their visitors.
2) Mountaindale, Colorado Springs
Located in the beautiful Pike's Peak region of Colorado Springs, this is definitely not your typical RV park. Way out in the country and very quiet, you'll find heavily treed, spacious, well-packed and perfectly level gravel sites. Mountaindale has a well-organized, terraced layout, and boasts gorgeous landscaping and an escort to your site.
Although off the beaten track, most guests feel that the 17-mile trip into Colorado Springs is doable and a small price to pay for some of the biggest RV sites in the state and the super friendly staff.
Enjoy the resident deer, turkey, and fox, and when you need your tech fix, the Wi-Fi and cable TV are great. A store on site carries the basic essentials, the bathrooms are spacious and private, and there's a large fenced dog park. Fish in the nearby ponds or Arkansas River, raft down the rapids, hit the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center, or take a ride on the Royal Gorge Railway just 45 minutes southwest of Colorado Springs.
3) Lake Pueblo State Park
This extremely popular, safety-patrolled park has 401 campsites spread throughout three different areas, 264 of which accommodate RVs. You'll enjoy a paved parking area, a covered picnic table, and a fire pit. Sites with 30-amp electrical hookups include flush toilets, coin-operated showers, dump station, playgrounds, and laundry facilities. Limited winter camping sites are available from October 1 to April 1.
Lake Pueblo offers 60 miles of shoreline with more recreational activities than you can probably fit into one visit. Fishing, jet skiing, windsurfing, and boating await on the lake, while the park's large network of trails keep the hikers and mountain bikers happy. Abundant flora and fauna include hills saturated with wildflowers, 200-year-old juniper trees, owls, beavers, and snapping turtles.
When you've caught all of the trout, bass, and walleye you can handle, you're just a short drive from Pueblo City's shops and dining venues. Kids love the Pueblo Zoo, and San Isabel Lake is about a half-hour's drive.
4) Ancient Cedars, Mesa Verde
If you're headed to Mesa Verde National Park, this seasonal resort is the closest full-service campground and a real gem. Drink in 360-degree views of the nearby mountains and national park from any area of this park that can host any size RV.
The Hook Up Aspen Co Webcam

The Hook Up Aspen Colorado
Spend a day or three exploring the amazing archeological sites at Mesa Verde, including 600 beautifully preserved cliff dwellings. You're only a half hour from Durango, where you'll find a plethora of great dining and shopping options, along with the historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
5) Pagosa Springs RV Park
This may be one of the smallest parks on our favorites list, but it's also one of the most friendly, intimate, and quiet. Found on Highway 84 just 10 miles south of Pagosa Springs, this peaceful, all-grass RV park nestles into the mountains alongside a river and boasts impeccably clean and manicured grounds.
Find full hookups, propane fire pits, good satellite service, free welcome wine, and unlimited popcorn. You can be as reclusive as you like, but you're welcome to join neighbors for complimentary ice cream, morning coffee, or communal movies at night. The park features a modern, fully equipped cooking area for guest use, and the much beloved owners rent ATVs for your touring pleasure.
Nearby Pagosa Springs is surrounded by two national forests and offers plenty of outdoor recreational activities, but no trip is complete without a restorative soak in the world-famous natural hot springs.
